Class RBe 540 - RBe 4/4

The 6 prototypes of the class RBe 4/4 (nos. 1401-1406) were built in 1959 and 1960. The 64 t heavy and 1988 kW strong electric motor cars had a top speed of 125 km/h. Originally, they have been built for the Gotthard line. Later, 76 more vehicles followed the prototypes, each weighing 4 tons more. The motor cars were modernized in 1992. This increased their weight again with 4 t.
