MÁV presented their new locomotive on 3 April 2002. The Siemens loco type
ES64 U2-V4 got the class number 1047 in the stock of the Hungarian State
Railways. The MÁV ordered 10 such locomotives (the GySEV/ROeEE ordered 5).
The first Taurus loco, the 1047 001 arrived on 26 March 2002 in Hungary. The class 1047 is the first Hungarian electric locomotive type capable of
running under 15 kV 16,7 Hz voltage besides the common Hungarian 25 kV
50 Hz system, so these vehicles can cross the western border as well.
Maximum speed allowed for the MÁV locos is 160 km/h, because the LZB train
control system (which allows faster tempo) is not installed on them
(while the GySEV/ROeEE locomotives have been equipped with LZB).
The last MÁV Taurus (1047 010) and the last loco ordered by GySEV (1047
505) arrived in Hungary in November 2002. They are in regular service since
the timetable change of 15 December 2002.
