The diesel locomotive VL 23 was originally in service on the narrow gauge network of the Yugoslavian State Railways (JŽ) as 740-024, then she was acquired by the Austrian Steiermärkische Landesbahnen. Due to a lack of locomotives, Zillertalbahn hired a diesel locomotive from StLB. The loco VL 23 circulated from 1999 until 2003 on the tyrolian narrow gauge railway. Another class 740 was acquired by Zillertalbahn as well: 740-007 has been in service there since 1982 as D10.
